Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Bang! Invites – Invite Users by Email

No. The invite link lets them create one. If they already have an account, they are told to log in instead.
14 days by default, configurable from 1 to 365 days under Settings.
No. A link is single-use and is consumed when the account is created.
No. The role is chosen by an administrator when the invitation is sent, stored on the server, and never read from the visitor's request. For security, invitations can only assign low-privilege roles: no role that can edit or publish content, or manage the site, is ever offered or applied. The check is capability-based rather than a fixed list, so custom roles work too - any low-privilege role on your site, whether registered by a membership or LMS plugin or created by you, appears in the role selector automatically. To give someone a higher role such as Editor, invite them and then promote their account under Users once they have registered. The role is checked again at the moment the account is created.
Yes. Under Settings, switch "Registration form" to "I'm using another registration plugin", then put that plugin's form on your registration page instead of the [banginvites_form] shortcode. Invite links, expiry, single-use enforcement and tracking all carry on working exactly as before. An invitation is marked accepted when a new account is created using the email address it was sent to, so the person does need to register with the address you invited.
Yes. Paste in as many addresses as you like, separated by commas, semicolons, spaces or new lines. Everyone in one batch gets the same role. Afterwards you get a breakdown showing what was sent, what was skipped because an account already exists, and anything that could not be emailed.
The link stops working and the person is told to ask for a new one. On the Tracking tab you can either "Resend", which emails a fresh link, or "New link", which mints one for you to copy and pass on yourself. Both replace the old link, so the previous one stops working straight away.
Invitations go out through the standard WordPress mail function, so if your site struggles to send email at all, invitations are affected like everything else. An SMTP plugin is the usual fix. In the meantime, every pending invitation on the Tracking tab has a "Copy link" button, so you can send the link yourself by any means you like.
Yes. The invitation email and the welcome email each have their own tab with a full editor and an editable subject, plus click-to-insert tokens for the registration button, the plain link, the expiry date, the person's name and more. You can also set the From name, From address and Reply-To.
One is made for them from the first and last name they enter, for example john.smith, with a number added if that name is already taken. If no name is available it falls back to the part of their email address before the @. They can sign in with either the username or their email address.
