When the invoice is first needed: automatically when the order reaches one of the "Issue automatically on" statuses (Processing and Completed by default), when it is attached to an email, or when an admin opens it. It is only ever issued for orders with an allowed status.

Yes. Set "Next invoice number" on the Invoice tab before the first invoice. Later you can move it forward (for example to start a new range), but never back to a number that was already used.

Numbers are never re-used. A gap is created when you move the next number forward or when an order with an invoice was deleted. The Invoice Register tab lists every issued number, including those of deleted orders.

The invoice keeps its number, date and original total. Refunds are listed below the total together with the net amount. Credit notes for refunds are available in the Pro add-on.

The bundled DejaVu Sans font covers Latin, Greek and Cyrillic scripts and many symbols (€ £ ¥ ₹). Right-to-left scripts and Chinese, Japanese or Korean characters are not fully supported by the PDF library in this version.

No. Without WooCommerce the plugin does nothing except showing a notice.

No – invoice numbers are accounting records. Only if you enable "Delete all data on uninstall" (Advanced tab) are the settings, the invoice register and the invoice numbers stored on orders removed.
