Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Category Color Picker

Yes. It works with any theme that uses the standard WordPress category output. With custom selectors, it can also support specific themes and plugins.
Yes. It can be used as an alternative to the category color feature of VK All in One Expansion Unit, with more flexible selector settings.
Yes. You can freely set CSS selectors under Settings > Category Color.
It adds noindex to the robots meta tag on the category archive page, single posts and pages belonging to that category (including pages, when your theme enables categories for pages), and tag/date archive pages that contain posts in the target category. On WordPress 5.7 and later, noindex is added through the wp_robots filter, so it is combined with the robots meta tag that WordPress outputs (for example, <meta name='robots' content='max-image-preview:large, noindex' />). On older versions, <meta name="robots" content="noindex" /> is output separately.
You can check it in the "Noindex" column of the category list. Categories with the setting enabled show "noindex" in red.
Every category color is output to :root as --ccp-color-{slug} (background) and --ccp-contrast-{slug} (readable text color). For example, border: 5px solid var(--ccp-color-html-css);. You can find the exact variable names for your site on the settings page.
Colors are also output as window.__ccp_color_{slug} and window.__ccp_contrast_{slug} inside wp_head(), so they can be referenced from inline scripts in the page body. This is useful for Chart.js or Canvas, where CSS variables cannot be resolved. Hyphens in the slug are converted to underscores (chart1-light becomes chart1_light). Slugs that are not valid JavaScript identifiers are available through the window.CCPColors object instead.
