Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Consentaro - Cookie Consent & Google Consent Mode for WooCommerce

No. The banner and Consent Mode defaults work without GTM. Add a GTM ID when you are ready to load tags after consent.
Try a private window (an earlier choice may be saved). Confirm the plugin is enabled. If “Geo-based banner” is on and you are outside the EU, the banner may stay hidden on purpose — turn Geo off temporarily to test.
Add the shortcode [consentaro_settings] to a footer, menu or page. It shows a "Cookie settings" button (change the text with label="Manage cookies") that reopens the preferences dialog with the visitor's saved choice. Any element with data-consentaro-action="reopen" does the same once the shortcode is on the page. If a visitor switches a category off, the page reloads so scripts that already ran are not left running.
Consentaro is built to stay light. Front-end assets are small and load only when needed.
Yes. Shop events are sent to the data layer only when the visitor’s consent allows them.
Consent Mode v2 is how Google tags learn whether a visitor agreed to analytics and advertising storage. Consentaro sets the Consent Mode defaults to denied before any Google tag runs, then updates them when the visitor makes a choice. Google Tag Manager is loaded only after a choice.
Yes. The plugin on WordPress.org is free, with no account or subscription needed.
Yes, optionally. The geo setting focuses the banner on EU/EEA-style visitors. If a visitor's location cannot be determined, the banner is shown to be safe. Which laws apply to your site depends on your visitors and business, so check with a qualified professional.
It's built to be conservative: only scripts matching a known tracker signature (Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel, and similar) are held back, and only until the matching consent category is granted. Anything Consentaro doesn't recognize — including your theme, page builder, and WooCommerce scripts — is always left alone. You can also review every detected script under Consentaro → Scripts and set its category by hand.
Consentaro helps with Consent Mode and a clear visitor choice. Rules differ by country and business. This plugin does not replace legal advice.
