Running it does mean running the control-plane service, PostgreSQL and object storage, plus the encoder service if you want image, font and unused-CSS optimization, and a free Wordfence Intelligence API key if you want vulnerability matching. Yes. The work that needs real CPU runs on the dashboard, not on your server. Long jobs such as backups acknowledge the request and continue in the background instead of holding a connection open.

Every feature is separately optional, so you can connect a site and use only the parts you want. Leave the page cache off and keep the caching plugin you already have; backups, updates and the rest work regardless.

Your site carries on serving. Work the dashboard schedules, such as backups, waits until it can reach the site again. Nothing on the site depends on the dashboard being up.

This plugin listens for the dashboard's signed commands, carries them out, and sends a heartbeat and environment metadata so the dashboard knows the site is alive. That is all it does on your server. Everything expensive runs on the dashboard: Remove Unused CSS is computed there, image and font encoding happen there, vulnerability matching against a managed feed happens there, and uptime is probed from there rather than from inside your site. Your server never needs a headless browser or an image library.

Per site, choose storage the dashboard manages, a folder on your own server, or any S3-compatible bucket. Your storage credentials stay on the dashboard and never reach the site; the dashboard signs each transfer.

No. The plugin contains no default endpoint and makes zero outbound connections until you connect it to a control plane that you supply. It is completely inert on activation.
