You need a Google Maps Platform API key with the Maps JavaScript API, Places API, and Geocoding API enabled (the Marker library is part of the Maps JavaScript API). Geocoding is used by the address / ZIP search on your maps. You can create one in the Google Cloud Console.

Unlimited. Mapsmith places no caps on businesses, locations, or maps.

In the block editor, add the Mapsmith Map block and pick a map. In the classic editor or a page builder, paste the shortcode [mapsmith id="X"] shown on the Maps screen.

Yes. With Search by address or ZIP turned on for a map (Map Editor → Controls), visitors can type a city, address, or ZIP code, pick a suggestion or press Enter, and the location list re-sorts by distance. Choose miles or kilometers per map.

Under Mapsmith → Settings → Other → Map Loading you can choose Ask visitors first. Maps then show a "Load map" button, and nothing is requested from Google until the visitor clicks it. Visitors can tick "Always load maps on this site", which is remembered in their browser (localStorage) only.

Yes. Each [mapsmith id="X"] shortcode renders an independent map instance.

Pin colors are set at the business level. Navigate to Mapsmith > Businesses, edit a business, and choose a pin color. You can also override pin styling at the map level in the Map Editor.

Yes. Enter your cloud-based Map ID in Mapsmith > Settings to apply custom map styling created in the Google Maps Platform Cloud Console.

Not unless you ask it to. Under Mapsmith → Settings → Other you can optionally turn on a small "Powered by Mapsmith" link shown below your maps. It is off by default, and you can turn it off again at any time.

Mapsmith Pro is a separate companion plugin sold at mapsmith.app. To upgrade: Purchase a Pro or Agency license at mapsmith.app/pricing. You'll receive an email with your license key and a download link for the Mapsmith Pro plugin (mapsmith-pro.zip). In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, upload the zip, and click Install Now → Activate. Open Mapsmith → Settings → License in your WordPress admin, paste your license key, and click Activate. Pro features (CSV import, custom popovers, marker clustering, custom themes, etc.) appear automatically — your existing businesses, locations, and maps are preserved. The free plugin keeps working independently. Removing or deactivating the Pro plugin returns you to the free feature set with no data loss.
