AI detection scores represent the confidence level that text was AI-generated or Original. They are not measures of the amount of AI versus Original content in a given text. We recommend not applying strict rules when evaluating AI scores. If a writer consistently has high Originality scores but then shows a higher AI score on one article, this could be a false positive requiring further investigation. Here is guidance on interpreting AI scores for writers.
False positives in AI detection do occur. Different factors can affect detection accuracy for each tool. Tips for minimizing false positives: A detection score of 60% Original and 40% AI means 60% confidence the content is Original, not that 60% was Original and 40% was AI. Editing AI-written content is detected as AI content (true positive, not false positive). Having AI edit your work is detected as AI content (true positive, not false positive). Any AI involvement in content creation can cause the entire article to be flagged as AI. Heavy use of AI writing tools for outlines, edits, or optimization can increase AI scores. Unusual formatting can reduce detector accuracy. Shorter text (under 100 words) results in less accurate detection. We recommend at least 100 words for scanning.
