Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about RankRoot – AI Visibility

A proposed standard (llmstxt.org) for a Markdown file at the root of your site that summarizes what the site is and links to its most useful pages, so AI assistants can understand it quickly. My /llms.txt shows a 404 Go to Settings > Permalinks and click Save to refresh rewrite rules. On sites using "Plain" permalinks, some web servers do not pass .txt requests to WordPress; choose any other permalink structure. The checklist tells you which case applies. I already have an llms.txt from Yoast or another plugin That physical file takes priority and is never overwritten. You can keep it and use only the robots.txt, schema and checklist features, or delete the file to let this plugin generate llms.txt dynamically.

The recommended preset blocks training crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, CCBot and others) while allowing AI search bots (OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, Claude-SearchBot) and user-requested fetches, so you can still be cited in AI answers. Blocking Google-Extended does not affect Google Search.

Either a physical robots.txt file exists in your site root (WordPress cannot change it, so copy the rules shown in the settings into it), or "Discourage search engines from indexing this site" is on.

No. Schema output is skipped when one of them is active, and robots.txt rules are appended to whatever they produce.

Not unless you click "Run full free audit on RankRoot". See External services below.

No. The plugin is complete and free. RankRoot also offers an optional Pro web service (multi-page scans and monitoring) at getrankroot.com; it is not needed to use this plugin.
