It’s lightweight and only runs when a visitor selects text. There are no large audio files to load and no network calls to external TTS providers. All speech processing happens locally in the user’s own browser, so there’s no server communication for converting text to speech and virtually no impact on your site’s performance.

The plugin currently uses the browser's default voice. Custom voice and language settings are planned for a future release.
