Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about TryDemoWP

No. The plugin only reads your files and database. The only things it writes are your snapshots and a temporary export file, both under wp-content/uploads/trydemo-sandbox-publisher/. The temporary file is deleted as soon as the snapshot is sealed.
As much as five copies of your site, by default. You choose how many to keep, between one and ten — when a new snapshot finishes, the oldest beyond that number is deleted. The snapshot your demo is currently showing is never deleted automatically. The plugin also refuses to start a snapshot when your host does not have room for it.
No. Snapshots are encrypted with a key that stays on TryDemoWP, so the file only works there. If you want an archive you can open, use a general-purpose backup plugin — this one is for demos.
Before your first snapshot, the plugin shows a review screen listing every plugin, theme, uploads folder and database table, with its size. You choose what goes in, and your choices are remembered for later snapshots. The review opens again when something new appears, such as a newly installed plugin, so new private data never goes in unnoticed. You can open it any time with "Review contents". Left out by recommendation, and yours to change: WooCommerce orders and customers, form entries (WPForms, Gravity Forms, Elementor), back-in-stock signups, paid downloadable files and files attached to forms. User accounts other than administrators. Security plugins such as Wordfence, whose firewall can lock demo visitors out. Always left out: wp-config.php (your database password and keys), this plugin and its connect token, caches, other backup plugins' folders, logs and archives, post revisions, transients, spam and trashed comments, and the rows of credential and log tables (API keys, saved cards, webhooks, sessions, scheduled-task history, security logs). Tables are never dropped, only emptied, so plugins keep working. Always replaced, because demo visitors sign in as administrators: every exported account's login, email and password hash (display names stay, so posts keep their author), session tokens and application passwords, billing and shipping details, and the email and IP address of every comment.
The plugin estimates the size before packaging anything. If it exceeds your plan's limit, the review screen opens with the size against your limit, so you can leave out media folders, inactive plugins or unused themes until it fits. You can also upgrade your TryDemoWP plan.
Yes. The export runs in roughly 20-second slices and saves its position after each one, so it never depends on a single long-running request.
No, as long as WP-Cron is working on your site: the push continues in the background and picks up from the same place when you come back. If WP-Cron is disabled the push screen says so and asks you to leave the tab open.
Your connect token, the name of the TryDemoWP site it is bound to, your snapshots, and the progress of any job in flight. Deleting the plugin removes all of it, including every snapshot file — so download anything you want to keep first.
A connect token is bound to a single site, so this plugin pushes to that one site. Generate a token from a different site to point it elsewhere.
The upload is resumable. The plugin asks TryDemoWP where it left off and continues from that byte. ZipArchive or OpenSSL is missing on my server The plugin needs PHP's ZipArchive extension to build a snapshot and OpenSSL to encrypt it. Most hosts have both; ask yours to enable them if the plugin reports one missing.
