Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Infinico Image Optimizer

No. Conversion runs on your server using WordPress image editors.

Your hosting environment must provide an image editor with support for that output format. PHP version alone does not guarantee codec support. Ask your host about GD or Imagick support for WebP and AVIF.

No. Originals are retained for compatibility with existing links, cached pages, and stylesheets. Allow enough disk space for converted files and generated image sizes.

Yes. Previously converted images can be processed again. Valid unchanged conversions can be reused. Changed sources or quality settings are evaluated again; an equal-size result for the same source can retain the existing optimized file.

Confirm that source replacement is enabled and conversion succeeded. Then clear page and CDN caches. External CSS, custom theme output, and URLs outside the plugin's known mappings are not automatically rewritten.

A valid converted file exists, but it is not the active optimized source shown for that attachment. Run conversion with source replacement enabled to activate it.

If another conversion is running, the plugin schedules a retry through WP-Cron. Retries depend on site traffic or a configured cron runner. If WP-Cron is disabled, configure a system cron runner or process the image manually.

No. Restore a missing or damaged source from a backup before converting it again.

No. Results depend on your images, quality settings, theme, caching, hosting, and delivery setup. Compare file sizes and test your actual frontend.
