Yes — as long as "Embed PDF text" is enabled (it is by default). The extracted text is added as the viewer's accessible fallback: invisible to visitors, readable by crawlers. If your server has pdftotext (poppler‑utils) the text is extracted server‑side for best quality; otherwise the plugin extracts it in the browser with PDF.js and caches it automatically when you save a post that contains a PDF.

You can hide the Download button, disable the right‑click "save image" option and remove the download links for the roles you choose. Please note that a browser‑rendered PDF is still fetched to the visitor's device, so a determined user could retrieve it with developer tools. Truly un‑bypassable blocking would require streaming the file through an access‑checked proxy — this plugin focuses on removing the easy download paths for the audiences you select.

No. Every script is bundled with the plugin and served from your own site. There are no API keys, no CDNs and no tracking.

The companion Highlite Pro plugin must be installed and activated. Then choose the roles allowed to highlight in Settings → Sacred PDF Viewer → Highlight & Annotate. Sacred PDF Viewer works fully without it — highlighting is simply an optional add‑on.

Any PDF reachable by URL — typically one you've uploaded to your Media Library, but any publicly accessible PDF link works.

The viewer scripts load only on pages that actually contain a [sacredpdf] shortcode, so pages without a PDF are unaffected.
