No, never. Folders are virtual: a lightweight taxonomy on top of your existing library. Files stay exactly where WordPress put them and every URL keeps working.

Deactivating simply hides the folders; your media is untouched. Uninstalling removes the plugin's data only if you opted in to "delete data on uninstall" in settings; otherwise folders survive a reinstall.

Yes. WorkMore Media Folders extends the standard WordPress media modal, which those builders all use.

Yes: FileBird, Real Media Library, HappyFiles, Folders by Premio, Wicked Folders and Enhanced Media Library importers are built in (Media → WorkMore Media Folders). Imports are resumable, running them twice duplicates nothing, and the source plugin's data is left untouched.

The public site: impossible, the plugin adds zero frontend code. The admin: it is benchmarked at 50k attachments with all operations under 300ms.

A file lives in at most one folder (like a real filesystem), and "Uncategorized" shows everything not yet filed.

Ten languages ship built in: Thai, Japanese, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Brazilian Portuguese, Indonesian and Simplified Chinese, plus community translations via translate.wordpress.org as they become available.
