Install and activate WorkMore Media Folders, then open Media → Library. Click "New folder" (or the "New folder" tile after your folders), name it, and drag files onto it. Right-click a folder to add a subfolder, rename it, color it or star it.

Yes. Unlimited folders, subfolders and files, drag and drop, colors, stars, search, sorting, the importers and all settings are free, without time limits. The optional Pro add-on adds separate features such as cloud storage offload and ZIP downloads; nothing in the free plugin is locked.

No, never. Folders are virtual: a lightweight taxonomy on top of your existing library. Files stay exactly where WordPress put them and every URL keeps working.

No. Image URLs, file names, alt text and your post content stay exactly the same, so nothing that search engines see changes.

Not your public site: the plugin adds no CSS, JavaScript or hooks there, in either interface. In the admin it is benchmarked with 50,000 attachments, with the folder tree, filtering, search and sorting each answering in under 300 ms on the server. The Classic interface is the lightest; Standard loads a few more kilobytes in the admin for its look.

Only the look in the admin. Standard is modern and app-like, with smart views, a details panel, a storage meter and dark mode; Classic looks like the rest of WordPress admin and loads the least. Both have the same folders and features, and you can switch any time under Media → WorkMore Media Folders → Interface. The dark mode setting is saved per user.

Deactivating simply hides the folders; your media is untouched. Uninstalling removes the plugin's data only if you opted in to "delete data on uninstall" in the settings; otherwise your folders are still there if you reinstall.

Yes. WorkMore Media Folders extends the standard WordPress media window, which the block editor, the Classic Editor, WooCommerce, Elementor and most builders use. The newer "Media" tab of the block inserter does not use that window, so it shows no folders; its "Open Media Library" button opens the full window, where your folders are.

Yes. Importers for FileBird, Real Media Library, HappyFiles, Folders by Premio, Wicked Folders and Enhanced Media Library are built in (Media → WorkMore Media Folders). Imports are resumable, running them twice duplicates nothing, and the source plugin's data is left untouched.

No. A file lives in at most one folder, like on your computer, so there is always one clear place to find it. Files not yet in a folder sit at the top level next to your folders, and "Show every file" lists the whole library at once.
