Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Uptime Monitoring for WordPress – My Website is Online

Three monitors in your WordPress dashboard: SSL certificate expiry, domain expiry and WordPress cron health. SSL and domain expiry warnings are shown on the dashboard and sent by email. These features do not require an account or a paid subscription. The plugin uses the My Website is Online service to retrieve SSL and domain information. See "External services" for the information exchanged.
Not until you activate external uptime monitoring. The three dashboard monitors rely on WordPress to run and cannot send an alert if WordPress is unavailable. Create or connect a free My Website is Online account from the plugin page to enable independent uptime checks and downtime email alerts.
Open the plugin page, enter your email, choose and confirm a password, and click "Connect this site". Your account is created and this site is added. Follow any email verification instructions shown to keep monitoring active. The free plan monitors one site every 5 minutes and includes email alerts. No credit card is required.
No. New accounts start with a 14-day trial of paid features, then continue on the free plan for one site. You do not need a paid subscription for the free plan's 5-minute uptime checks and email alerts, or for the plugin's three dashboard monitors.
Use your account email and password in the connection form to add this site to your account. Your existing plan and site limits apply. If you sign in with Google or GitHub, or use two-factor authentication, sign in to the app, open the WordPress connect page and copy a connect code. Choose "Use a connect code" in the plugin and enter it there.
SSL and domain expiry emails are sent by WordPress to the site's administration address. They are included without an account and can be turned off on the plugin page.
The service could not establish a secure connection to your site. This can happen with local installations, restricted staging environments or servers that block the check. It does not necessarily mean the certificate has expired. Check whether the site is publicly accessible over HTTPS.
Some domain registries do not publish an expiry date. An unavailable date does not, by itself, mean there is a problem with your domain.
By default, WordPress checks for scheduled tasks when a page loads. On a low-traffic site, tasks can be delayed until the next request that reaches WordPress. The plugin reports this condition; it does not replace WordPress cron. External uptime checks may generate requests, but caching and server configuration can prevent them from triggering scheduled tasks. For consistent scheduling, ask your host about a server cron job.
No. The WordPress connection is removed, but external monitoring continues in your My Website is Online account. Remove the site from your account to stop it.
