Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about WDOnline Live Visitor Monitor

No. Realtime visitor data is handled locally by the plugin.

The default timeout is 90 seconds. The default frontend heartbeat is 30 seconds. The browser sends a lightweight heartbeat while the page is visible. When the page becomes hidden or is closed, it stops contributing new heartbeats and the stored presence expires through the configured timeout.

Yes. The plugin uses the wdonline-live-visitor-monitor text domain, loads translations from the standard /languages directory, and includes a POT template that Loco Translate can use or rescan.

Yes. Diagnostics compatibility is optional and has no effect on normal operation when the diagnostics plugin is absent.

No. The plugin does not automatically send diagnostic data, telemetry or visitor data to WD Online or any other external server.

Visitor countries is enabled automatically on a new installation and once when upgrading from a version older than 1.5.1. You can disable it under WD Online > Live visitor Monitor > Settings. Your choice is preserved on later activations and upgrades. Existing visitor entries obtain a country on their next heartbeat. Unknown is shown when no country can be determined. Disable the setting to stop country lookups and hide the country overview. Existing country codes expire with the presence rows. Lookups use the bundled October 2026 DB-IP Lite database locally, with IPv4 and IPv6 support. IP addresses are used temporarily in memory and are never written to visitor records or diagnostic logs. No visitor address is sent externally. Database updates are included with plugin releases; no automatic database downloads occur. VPNs, proxies and database age can affect accuracy. Only REMOTE_ADDR is trusted by default. Behind a reverse proxy or CDN, configure your web server to restore the verified client address. Developers can use the wdonline_lvm_client_ip filter after validating trusted proxy addresses; never trust arbitrary client-supplied forwarding headers. Without this configuration, the proxy country may appear instead.
